Author: Harsimran Singh

ABSTRACT
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important feature of every business organization
nowadays. The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has come into the policy
landscape due to the new Company Bill 2012, which envisages a statutory responsibility on
the companies of spending two percent of their profit on the non-business socially relevant
activities primarily aimed at the localities where they are undertaking their business. This
paper focuses on the strategies adopted by SBI in CSR and its impact on business. This
research paper deals with the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility in Banking
Industry particularly the sense of responsibility of State Bank of India (SBI) towards the
upliftment of common masses and protection of the environment and development of the
nation. Banking as a sector has been unique and the interests of other stakeholders appear
more important to it than in the case of non-banking and non-finance organizations.
Regarding the banking sector Bhatt (2008) stated that banks do not exist vacuum. They make
a large contribution to the country's GDP growth, meet the demand of the growing middle
class, contribute to infrastructure spending, and reach out to the semi urban and rural areas.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) (2011) on stressing the need for CSR, suggested the banks to
pay special attention towards integration of social and environmental concerns in their
business operations to achieve sustainable development. The Banking Sector performing
their banking services more effectively in comparison with the past and started working
towards social banking that is Corporate Social Responsibility.

by Dr Claude Stenier. The findings revealed that Emotional Intelligence level of bank
Employees was 77.3%. The results revealed that with seniority emotional intelligence does

Author: Sarbjit Singh Kular

Abstract
Realizing the great importance of bringing improvement in children and women’s health
and nutritional status, Integrated Child Development Services (ICSD) Scheme was launched
on 2nd October 1975. The scope of present study is to evaluate the community participation
in ICDS programme. In order to achieve the objectives of the present study, Out of the
fifteen districts covered by the Malwa region Barnala, Mansa, Bathinda, Sangrur, Moga,
Muktsar, Fridkot and Ludhiana has been chosen for the study. A total of 40 villages (05
from each chosen district) were selected on the basis of random. From each village
Anganwadi Worker and village Sarpanch were selected for study. Thus a total of 40
Anganwadi Workers and 40 Villages Sarpanch was in the sample, from all 40 villages which
were having Anganwadi for at least the last 25 years. It was disappointing to find that a
majority (62.50%) of the AWWs did not receive any help from anyone in running the AWCs
at village level. It was also found that a majority (57.50%) of the village Sarpanches did not
visit the AWCs at all. A high majority (97.50%) village Sarpanches answered that there was
no local committee formed to help the AWWs to conduct different activities and again a
high majority (97.50%) village Sarpanches admitted that there was no organization at the
village level to help the AWWs. In this regard, it is recommended that the training of project
ICDS functionaries should be strengthened to impart them specific skills to elicit community
participation and also need to have a short duration preparation phase to raise awareness of
the community regarding ICDS services.

ABSTRACT
Globalization changes the power of developing countries to that of developed countries. It
changes power relationship between government, business and civil societies. Most
fundamentally it changed the prospects of peace both within countries and between them.
Moreover in this era of globalization countries are residing on a „heap of baroodh‟. There is
mad race of collecting weapons of destruction at national level as well as individual level.
There is violence everywhere at every moment. Every person is intolerant and frustrated.
Negative values are spreading like a vishdhar snake in each and every country. World war
like situation is emerging at international level. When a war breaks out, it‟s on slaught is not
only on forces fighting with each other but also on the civilians and innocent children. It
effects the whole eco-social cultural, psychological fabric of a nation. Human rights are
violated. Due to development of information technology moral crisis are on increase. No
peace everywhere. Now the question is how to secure our generation from these evil and
moral crisis-the only answer is education that always plays a role of catalyst for change.

CHANGE IN CROPPING PATTERN FROM PADDY TO GINGER AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON KODAGU’S ECONOMY
Author: Reshma Chengappa

ABSTRACT
Sustainable agriculture is the need of the hour. Before the advent of coffee plantation in
Kodagu district of Karnataka state in India, in the latter half of the 19th century,
agriculture was the major source of livelihood for the population with paddy being the
staple crop. It is said that there was time when Kodaguproduced surplus paddy even for
exports and sometimes the excess was never utilized and hence waswasted due to lack
of transport and marketing facilities. Farmers could not even winnow and store the
paddy.2 However, things changed with the increase in population. The area under
cultivation of coffeeexpanded at the cost of deforestation, which in turn is costing heavily
now in the form of reduced numberof rainy days, erratic and untimely rainfall leading
to seasonal water scarcity. Besides, the advent of ginger cultivation in the recent years
has led to further deforestation and conversion of paddy fields into ginger growing beds.
In the process of ginger cultivation the water which otherwise used to get collected in the
paddy fields is drained out to save the ginger rhizomes from rotting. This has affected
the percolation process and led to decline in the water table. The ramification is,
drying of wells and farmponds in the surrounding area. Hence, the crop budgeting of
paddy and ginger is calculated to find out the reasons for the shift in the cropping
pattern, its implications on income and employment.

ABSTRACT
The majority of the population in India lives in villages. The village is the back bone of the country. Village or rural industries play an important role in the national economy, particularly in the rural development. Rural entrepreneurship is not only important as a means of generating employment opportunities in the rural areas with low capital cost and raising
the real income of the people, but also its contribution to the development of agriculture and
urban industries. Rural entrepreneurship can be considered one of the solutions to reduce poverty, migration, economic disparity, unemployment and develop rural areas and backward regions.
